BBC to film £10m D-Day TV drama, par Ben Dowell (The Sunday Mirror, 16 février 2003).
THE BBC is to mark the 60th anniversary of D-Day with a huge pounds 10million drama.

The team behind the acclaimed Walking With Dinosaurs series have been called in to help with the project - about a group of men caught up in the landings - which will be shown in two parts next year.

Names being touted for parts include Albert Finney - who played Churchill in BBC2's Gathering Storm - Spooks star Matthew McFadyen, and Hugh Bonneville. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are being lined up to play U.S. troops.

The programme will feature live action involving hundreds of extras to recreate the 1944 Allied invasion of France.

The BBC's commitment to the drama stands in contrast to the Government's own plans to scale down its contribution to the 60th anniversary. Only one junior minister will attend a ceremony in Normandy next year. The BBC also wants to erase memories of the millions it invested in the flop Steven Spielberg drama about D-Day, Band of Brothers.
